Mechanical Project Engineer (Infrastructure)

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team for a major infrastructure project at a key healthcare facility in Kettering. This role is focused on the delivery of complex mechanical systems essential to the continuous and safe operation of hospital environments. You will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of mechanical installations, ensuring compliance with rigorous healthcare standards, and managing the project lifecycle from design coordination through to final commissioning.



Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Management: Supervise the installation of mechanical services including HVAC, medical gases, chilled water systems, and plant room fit-outs.

  • Design Coordination: Review technical drawings and specifications to ensure they align with the project''s infrastructure requirements and clinical needs.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular site inspections to ensure all mechanical works meet high-quality standards and adhere to HTM (Health Technical Memoranda) and HBN (Health Building Notes) guidelines.

  • Subcontractor Liaison: Manage mechanical subcontractors on-site, ensuring works are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

  • Procurement & Planning: Coordinate the procurement of long-lead mechanical equipment and manage detailed programmes of work to minimise disruption to hospital operations.

  • Commissioning: Oversee the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing hospital infrastructure.

  • Health & Safety: Maintain a strict health and safety culture, ensuring all mechanical activities comply with site-specific risk assessments and method statements.



Requirements

  • Qualifications: A degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related Building Services discipline.

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer, specifically within healthcare or high-occupancy public infrastructure projects.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of mechanical plant, pipework systems, and ventilation within a clinical setting.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with clinical staff, estates teams, and external stakeholders.

  • Software Proficiency: Competent in the use of AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), and project management software.
