A successful and highly-respected Mechanical Building Services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join its established Pre-Construction team in Hampshire.

The business delivers high-quality mechanical installations across commercial CAT A and CAT B fit-out and refurbishment, together with healthcare, education, leisure and specialist environments.

Typical mechanical project values sit around £1 million to £4 million, with larger schemes extending beyond £6 million, providing the successful candidate with a strong mix of technically challenging and commercially significant tenders.

This is an opportunity to join a contractor with a genuinely established in-house Pre-Construction capability incorporating estimating, design, CAD and BIM. Rather than operating as an isolated estimator, you will work alongside experienced technical and delivery colleagues while retaining genuine ownership of your tenders from initial enquiry through negotiation and successful handover.

The role is office-based and would particularly suit somebody already living in Hampshire or West Sussex.

The Opportunity

As Mechanical Estimator, you will take ownership of mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, negotiation and project handover.

Your role will include:

• Reviewing drawings, specifications, tender enquiries and supporting documentation
• Producing detailed mechanical take-offs and cost estimates
• Quantifying labour, materials, plant and subcontract requirements
• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Pricing substantial HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, pipework, public health and plantroom installations
• Identifying tender risk, commercial opportunities and value-engineering solutions
• Supporting negotiations, clarifications and successful handover into the delivery team

You will work closely with the wider Estimating, Design, Commercial and Operational teams, giving you visibility across the complete pre-construction process and a clear understanding of how successful tenders move into live delivery.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a strong contractor background and the confidence to manage substantial tenders with a high degree of independence.

You should have:

• Proven Mechanical Building Services estimating experience within a Mechanical or M&E contractor
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, pipework and public health systems
• Experience pricing commercial fit-out, refurbishment or comparable mechanical installation projects
• The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation confidently
• Strong supplier and subcontractor procurement and negotiation skills
• Good commercial awareness, including tender risk and value engineering

Experience using Ensign estimating software is strongly preferred and would allow the successful candidate to make an immediate impact within the team.

The position would particularly suit somebody who enjoys taking responsibility for their own tenders but still values having experienced Design, Pre-Construction and Operational colleagues around them.
