Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.
Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads by example with all Health & Safety requirements and activities.
- Prepare risk assessments and method statements or other safety documents as required by the task. Perform system isolations and LoTo as required following processes and procedures.
- Ensures the work place and area is kept tidy and safe for self and others.
- Duties may include responding to maintenance activities on a broad range of increasingly complex and interactive services covering, heating, cooling, building management systems, ventilation, filtration, energy conservation, gas services, cold/hot water services, sanitary & waste plumbing, compressed air, humidifiers, chemical treatment, fans, pumps, boilers, calorifiers & chillers and steam. Produce any and all testing and certification documents for all works undertaken.
- Advise and support the discipline Supervisor on all technical and compliance issues and concerns.
- Support the discipline Supervisor in the delivery of technical information to the wider team.
- Carry out all work allocated through the CAFM system in a safe and timely manner.
- Ensure the building users/stakeholders are kept fully informed of the status of job progress.
- Respond appropriately to and prioritise allocated workload in collaboration with the control centre team.
- Supports the team Supervisor with coaching and mentoring of the technical and assistant team.
- Operate and communicate with the wider Asset Management teams to ensure clear communications are met.
- Lead site teams comprising of Electricians, Mechanical Fitters and/or contracted personnel on major maintenance projects. This could include emergency breakdowns, major repairs/upgrades, new installations or preventative maintenance overhauls.
- On all site matters, (planning, progress, implementation and commissioning) liaises with departmental/building staff keeping own supervisor advised on a daily basis.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Recognised trade apprenticeship or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 in building services / mechanical engineering (or approved equivalent).
- Experience and knowledge in a related or similar discipline.
- Practical skills and proficiency are required in the use of both power and hand tools.
- Experience of working on mechanical building services within a commercial setting.
- Technical fault finding on a range of building service systems.
- The understanding of, and communication experience within a similar setting.
- Practical skills will have been developed through a recognised formal mechanical engineering/building services training course over a minimum of four years.
- Knowledge and skills in engineering work procedures, associated regulations and legislation will be needed to comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- The role holder will be required to have received training and instruction in the Water Supply (Water Fitting) Regulations 1999 and be capable of disseminating this knowledge to departments so that they become aware of the regulations and the impact this has on their duties and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of unvented hot water systems, accompanied by an Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems approved qualification.
- The role holder shall be conversant with Health and Safety Regulations.
- The role will require participation in the Duty Technician, providing an out of hours emergency service across the estate.
Desirable:
- Experience of modern and traditional piping systems and possible repairs.
- Experience and understanding of steam systems.
- General safety training courses as related to lifting apparatus, abrasive wheels, manual handling, confined space, steam use, scaffold erection, use and operation of picker trucks will have been completed.
- BTEC HNC in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
