Mechanical Design & Service Engineer
Salary: £38,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Swadlincote, Derbyshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Our client is a well-established engineering business specialising in material handling solutions. They are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design & Service Engineer to join their Engineering Division based in Swadlincote.
This is a unique hybrid role combining office-based mechanical design with hands-on site inspections, engineering diagnostics and client-facing technical support. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions, supporting refurbishment projects and building strong customer relationships across the UK.

The Role
Working as part of the Engineering Division, you will divide your time between the office and customer sites, taking responsibility for:
- Producing 2D and 3D CAD designs using SolidWorks, Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Designing industrial machinery and structural steelwork.
- Carrying out site inspections, engineering surveys and equipment assessments.
- Diagnosing mechanical failures, structural issues and equipment wear.
- Performing engineering calculations, including torque, motor power, gear ratios and belt tensions.
- Supporting customers with technical enquiries and developing engineering solutions.
- Producing detailed technical reports with clear recommendations.
- Working closely with clients to support refurbishment projects and ongoing engineering requirements.
We're looking for an engineer who has:
- A BEng or MEng in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience designing industrial machinery or structural steelwork.
- Strong CAD skills using Solid Works and/or Autodesk Inventor, together with AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of drive systems, power transmission and mechanical calculations.
- Experience carrying out site surveys and fault-finding within heavy industrial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex engineering issues clearly.
- Experience of structural calculations and stress analysis, with FEA experience advantageous.
- A valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or equivalent) is desirable.
- A full UK driving licence, as regular travel throughout the UK is required.
Salary is dependent on experience, with a range of £38,000 to £65,000 per annum available for the right candidate.
