Mechanical Design Engineer - SolidWorks Permanent Full-Time
Salary - Circa -42,000 DOE
Location - Office-based in Halifax

The team combines industrial expertise with educational insight to create rugged, user-friendly tools that support practical learning and technical skill development across STEM disciplines.
They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer proficient in SolidWorks. The role involves designing products and solutions for educational use, staying informed on market trends and technological developments, and contributing to technical documentation.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
- Designing mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) and generating accurate cost estimates
- Sourcing components and liaising with suppliers
- Applying machining, sheet metal, and finishing processes to ensure product quality
- Selecting appropriate materials and finishes for function and aesthetics
- Integrating mechanical components such as bearings, gears, pulleys, and couplings
- Conducting design calculations and applying engineering theory
- Building and testing prototypes using workshop tools and rapid prototyping equipment
- Collaborating with electrical/electronic engineers to integrate PCBs and components
- Producing technical documentation for internal and customer use
- Supporting product demonstrations and contributing to technical briefs
Experiences required
- Proficient in SolidWorks and 3D modelling
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years'' professional experience
- Skilled in creating detailed production drawings (DFM)
- Experience designing mechanical components with appropriate limits and fits
- Familiarity with measuring techniques for mechanical parameters
- Knowledge of machining, sheet metal, and bending processes
- Hands-on experience with workshop tools and prototype testing
