We are an engineering and manufacturing business based in Stevenage, looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer.

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for mechanical design projects, developing new designs and improving existing products while working closely with our engineering and manufacturing teams.

The role will suit an engineer who enjoys detailed design, solving practical engineering challenges and seeing projects through from initial requirements to manufacture.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing mechanical components, assemblies and products
• Producing accurate 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
• Developing engineering solutions to meet customer and project requirements
• Selecting suitable materials, components and manufacturing processes
• Applying design for manufacture and assembly principles
• Carrying out engineering calculations to support design decisions
• Producing and maintaining bills of materials and technical documentation
• Working closely with production teams and suppliers to resolve manufacturing queries
• Supporting prototype development, testing and design validation
• Managing design changes and maintaining accurate drawing revisions
• Improving existing designs for performance, reliability and cost
• Managing your workload to meet project deadlines

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role
• Experience within engineering, manufacturing or a technical product environment
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software
• Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and assemblies
• A good understanding of manufacturing processes and material selection
• Knowledge of tolerances, fits and design for manufacture
• Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with production teams and suppliers
• A practical, hands-on approach to engineering
• A relevant engineering degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience
