Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Poole
Salary: Up to £52,000
Type: Permanent | On-site
We’re working on behalf of an established and growing engineering company based in Poole that’s looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a hands-on, varied role within a fast-paced environment—ideal for someone who enjoys technical challenges and working across all areas of engineering.
You''ll play a key role in new product development, continuous improvement, quality assurance, and production support—working collaboratively across departments to ensure efficient, effective engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design new products and improve existing ones using 3D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Support cross-functional teams including Design, Production, and Purchasing.
- Create and maintain build documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct product and prototype testing; implement findings into the product range.
- Update engineering drawings and manage changes.
- Support QA procedures, including first-off inspections and supplier approvals.
- Generate accurate CAD BoMs and maintain MRP BoMs.
- Assist with cost reduction activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design experiments and compile reports to support performance validation.
- Contribute to software configuration for specific product applications (desirable).
Skills & Experience Required:
- HND or Degree in Mechanical/Design Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years in a Design Engineering role.
- Confident in generating manufacturing and inspection drawings.
- Working knowledge of rotating assemblies, fluid handling, and electromechanical systems.
- Experience with sheet metal, injection moulding, and casting design.
- Comfortable working in a drawing office with change control procedures.
- Understanding of DfM principles and working with suppliers.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Practical, hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects under pressure.
