Mechanical Design Engineer - Automation & Robotics

We are seeking a Mechanical Design & Development Engineer to join a busy and dynamic company who develops bespoke automation systems, encompassing a myriad of different technologies including robotics, specialist purpose machinery, control systems and much more!

This role would suit someone with sound SolidWorks / Inventor knowledge who thrives in a varied role, enjoys getting involved in full life-cycle engineering, and wants to join a company where innovation, practical problem-solving, and hands-on involvement are genuinely valued.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting early-stage proposals with concept models and ideas
• Developing new mechanisms, assemblies, and machine concepts using SolidWorks
• Building and testing prototypes
• Producing detailed part and assembly models, as well as high-quality manufacturing drawings
• Working closely with electrical and controls colleagues to shape system behaviour and sensor strategy
• Liaising with suppliers, gathering costs, and helping with technical administration
• Creating BOMs, documentation, and 3D visuals for technical and marketing use
• Getting hands-on during assembly, commissioning, and customer delivery of turnkey solutions

Requirements:

• Strong SolidWorks skills (essential)
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, machining, and fabrication
• Someone who enjoys being hands-on as well as design-focused
• A proactive mindset with a willingness to get stuck in across the project lifecycle
• Attention to detail and strong technical documentation skills
• Experience with motors, pneumatics, or special-purpose machinery is a bonus
