Mechanical & Commercial Heating Engineer £55k

OverviewMechanical and Commercial Heating Engineer role located in West London and West End. Salary £55k per annum plus travel and package. Contract: Full-time, Permanent. Reports To: Estates and Facilities Manager.

The role involves operating, maintaining, and repairing heating and mechanical systems critical to hospital operations and patient care from the plant room.

Responsibilities

Operate, maintain, and repair commercial heating, ventilation, and hot water systems within the hospital plant room.

Carry out routine servicing, fault diagnosis, and planned preventative maintenance on steam systems, pumps, pressurisation units, and related mechanical equipment.

Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and breakdowns to minimise disruption to hospital services.

Ensure all works comply with statutory regulations, health and safety requirements, and hospital policies.

Support energy efficiency initiatives and identify opportunities for performance improvements within the plant.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, assist with audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.

Collaborate with estates staff, contractors, and clinical teams to support safe hospital operation.

Qualifications

Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Heating and Ventilation, or related discipline.

Proven experience maintaining and repairing commercial heating systems, ideally within a healthcare or similar critical environment.

Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.

Good problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and under pressure.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
