Location: West Drayton
Hours: Full-time, 8:30am - 4:00pm (term-time only)
Salary: -120 - -140 per day (depending on qualifications and experience)
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanic Technician to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school. This is a rewarding role where you will support the delivery of vocational motor mechanics lessons and help students develop essential practical skills, confidence, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teachers in the planning and delivery of motor vehicle and mechanics lessons, ensuring all resources and tools are prepared.
- Provide classroom support, 1:1 support, and small group support, adapting tasks to meet individual learning needs.
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and engaging workshop learning environment, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
- Use behaviour management strategies to promote positive learning and engagement.
- Actively participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and student progress reviews.
- Encourage and motivate students with SEMH needs, helping them to achieve their educational, vocational, and personal development goals.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in Motor Vehicle Studies, Mechanics, or equivalent trade qualification.
- Strong practical knowledge of motor mechanics, vehicle maintenance, and workshop practices.
- Ability to explain and demonstrate mechanical processes clearly to young learners.
- Experience working with young people in an education, training, youth work, or SEMH setting.
- Flexible, patient, and resilient, with a positive approach to supporting students with challenging behaviour and special educational needs (SEN).
- Excellent organisational skills and a proactive, team-focused attitude.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a school technician role, teaching assistant role, or vocational learning environment.
- Understanding of SEND, SEMH, and behaviour management strategies.
- First Aid or safeguarding training (or willingness to complete).
