We''re recruiting for a Freelance Managing QS to join a significant highways infrastructure scheme. From day one, you''ll play a pivotal role in managing a major compensation event while supporting the commercial delivery of large bridge and structures packages.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor looking for a long-term freelance contract.
The Role
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you''ll be based full-time on site (Monday-Friday), taking ownership of one of the project''s most commercially significant workstreams.
Your primary focus will be managing a high-profile £5 million NEC compensation event associated with a major roundabout package. You''ll work directly with the client to resolve complex commercial matters, analyse pricing changes following a design refresh and drive successful contractual outcomes.
Alongside this, you''ll provide commercial leadership and support to the structures team, who are currently delivering multiple large bridge packages during a busy procurement phase.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead a major NEC compensation event valued at approximately £5 million.
·Manage commercial negotiations directly with the client.
·Administer NEC Option C contracts.
·Review pricing changes following design development.
·Provide commercial guidance to the structures delivery team.
·Support procurement and commercial strategy across major bridge packages.
·Ensure robust commercial management throughout project delivery.
What We''re Looking For
To be successful, you''ll have:
·Proven experience working as a Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) or equivalent senior commercial role.
·Strong NEC contract knowledge, particularly NEC Option C.
·Extensive experience managing complex compensation events.
·Previous experience on major highways, bridges or structures projects.
·Excellent commercial negotiation and client management skills.
·Experience mentoring and supporting commercial teams.
·Knowledge of the Escape Framework would be advantageous.
·Ability to work full-time on site near Lincoln.

Rate: £630 per day Inside IR35
Hours: 45 hours per week
