Our Tax Controversy and Risk Management (TCRM) team is one of the largest dispute resolution teams in the UK, bringing together tax dispute resolution, litigation and risk management expertise within EY’s International Tax and Transaction Services practice. We have a strong track record of growth and development for our people and have ambitious plans for the coming years.The opportunityOur team helps businesses navigate complex controversy and proactive engagement with HMRC (including enquiries and disclosures), combining broad technical and sector knowledge with dispute resolution techniques and insights into HMRC’s approach. We are experts in our field and foster a collaborative culture across our Tax business.As a tax controversy-focussed professional, you’ll help clients manage tax disputes to resolution, support proactive HMRC engagement (including voluntary disclosures and Business Risk Review+ discussions), and contribute to evaluating and mitigating tax risk. The role is predominantly corporate tax focused and experience with multi-million pound organisations will be important for success.Your key responsibilities

Assist the delivery of tax controversy projects, ensuring technical and commercial excellence supported by an experienced senior teamDay-to-day client liaison and coordination with the wider tax team for engagementsDrive activities to achieve effective tax outcomes and certainty for clientsSupport the preparation of SAO certification and tax strategy for publication, and assist clients in preparation for Business Risk Review+; develop testing programmes to ensure controls are operating effectivelySkills And Attributes For Success

Broad corporate tax compliance or advisory practitioner (with a desire to focus on controversy / dispute resolution) or HMRC Inspector (Grade 7 or above)Previous tax controversy experience preferred, but not essentialStrong, broad tax technical skills and a desire to develop furtherProven ability to analyse and interpret existing and new tax statute and deliver quality outputExcellent communicator who thrives in a collaborative environmentAbility to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwardsInterest in ongoing learning and innovation, including using technology and AI tools to improve processesTo qualify for the role you must have

ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA (or equivalent) with experience in a corporate tax-focussed role; orTax Inspector experience with full Technical Training Course (IDP/TPDP/TSP etc) – Grade 7 or aboveIdeally, you’ll also be

A current tax controversy professional in practice or HMRC with interest in developing your specialism in private practice; orA current corporate tax professional with interest in developing a tax controversy specialismWhat Working At EY Offers
