Overseeing production, scheduling, stock, and fulfilment, youll ensure efficiency whilst maintaining the highest standards in food safety, hygiene, and compliance.You will help shape our futurelaunching new products, optimising our space, and owning cost control, recipe documentation, and quality systems. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on structure, standards, and team success.Resporting to: DirectorsKey Skills: Systems and Process focused, people person, team leader, highly organised, calm under pressure, diligent, effective communicator.Key Experience: Bakery team supervision, HACCP level 3, team leadership, systems implementation, staff training, Food Safety Management, Health and Safety management.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTaking ownership and running the production function of Satterthwaites Bakehouse. This will include:Working with the bakery team to plan efficient production to meet demand andhigh-quality standards.
Gaining an understanding of our wholesale customer requirements and workingwith the packers and drivers to effectively manage deliveries.
Assessing the potential to take on new wholesalers (currently approximately 20customers and 30% of turnover). Work with the team to plan and implementdeliveries to new wholesale customers.
Reviewing new product lines, producing samples and implementing productionof agreed new lines. Where necessary this can be a hands-on role producingbaked goods as required.
Assessment of spare capacity within the bakery and the potential to add newproduct lines.
Gaining a full understanding of the HACCP system and ensuring itsimplementation in the bakery.
Liaising with the Council''s Environmental Health Office, acting as key contact forEHO visits and dealing with any queries raised.
Carrying out fire risk assessments and training.
HR (hiring, firing, performance management, holidays, annual reviews etc.)
Carrying out staff training and performance monitoring.
Site property management and maintenance.
Machinery maintenance (assisting with technical issues where necessary andorganising external engineers where needed.)
Reporting (performance, output, financial, budget etc.)
Maintaining positive supplier relationships.
Supporting the Management Team as required.
A little bit about usWe opened in April 2013 and currently employ about 30 staff, some of whom worked for the former Satterthwaites. Turnover is approximately £1 million pa.We sell traditional pork pies and sausage rolls, the bread is freshly made and baked on site and our famous Bavarians are still a bestseller. We also sell more modern cakes, such as Biscoff Millionaires and NY Cookies, in addition to the old favourites like Chocolate Eclairs and Iced Buns.We have recently started making sourdough and we would like to expand our range of sourdough as well as more modern cakes and savouries.This is a full-time role 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, early start 5am and may include Saturdays.Benefits include:20% staff discount on food and beverages
