The Opportunity

We're working with a growing Mechanical Engineering and Building Services contractor to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager to join their leadership team.

This opportunity would suit an established Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager, Construction Commercial Manager, M&E Commercial Manager, Building Services Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a broader commercial leadership position.

As Commercial Manager, you'll oversee the commercial performance of multiple live projects, lead a small commercial team and play a key role in developing commercial processes as the business continues to grow.

The Role

As Commercial Manager, effectively operating as the Head of Commercial for this growing SME, you'll take ownership of the commercial performance across multiple Mechanical Engineering and Building Services projects, with one direct report.

This role offers the perfect opportunity for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a true leadership role with autonomy to shape commercial systems, reporting and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the commercial performance of multiple live Mechanical Engineering and Building Services projects
• Full P&L responsibility across projects and business unit
• Review, negotiate and administer commercial contracts
• Develop cost plans, budgets and financial forecasts
• Lead project commercial reviews, focusing on profitability and risk
• Produce and review CVRs, applications for payment, variations and final accounts
• Improve and implement commercial processes, systems and controls
• Establish consistent financial reporting across all projects
• Support and enhance commercial awareness across operational teams
• Manage, mentor and develop Junior Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the commercial function

About You

You'll ideally be an experienced:

• Commercial Manager
• Senior Commercial Manager
• Managing Quantity Surveyor
• Senior Quantity Surveyor
• M&E Commercial Manager
• Building Services Commercial Manager

You'll also have:

• Mechanical Engineering, M&E, Building Services or Construction experience
• Strong commercial and financial management skills
• Experience managing multiple live projects
• Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
• Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• A proactive approach to improving commercial processes and developing teams

Desirable Experience

• Archdesk or similar commercial/project management software
• Sage 50 Projects or similar accounting software
• Experience implementing commercial reporting systems
• Healthcare, education or public sector project experience

Salary & Package

• £65,000 – £80,000 DOE
