Male Specialist 1:1 Mentor

Job Title: Male Specialist 1:1 Tutor / Mentor (SEN & Mentoring Focus)
Pay Rate: -35.00 per hour
Schedule: Home-based sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (Preferred afternoons)
Location: In-home, NG11


About the Role

We are seeking a patient, adaptable, and empathetic Male Tutor/Mentor to support a bright, creative Year 10 student (KS4) who is currently out of school due to high anxiety and autistic burnout.
Due to the personal care guidance, role modeling, and specific relational needs outlined in the student''s EHCP, this position is genuinely restricted to male applicants.



Key Responsibilities

• Relationship Building & Engagement (Home-Based):
  
  • Build a foundation of trust using a low-demand, relational approach.
    
  • Connect through shared interests, particularly gaming (e.g., Roblox) and hands-on, creative activities.
    
  • Create a calm, predictable environment that accommodates sensory needs and minimises pressure.
    
• Academic & Skill Re-engagement:
  
  • Support basic, adapted learning with a focus on Maths and practical learning.
    
  • Break instructions down clearly and support kinetic/visual learning styles.
    
• Community Access & Preparing for Adulthood:
  
  • Slowly build confidence to step outside the home.
    
  • Accompany the student to local community spaces.
    
  • Teach essential life skills: navigating public transport, route planning, basic budgeting, and CV writing/career exploration.
    

• Neurodiversity & Mental Health: Experiences acute anxiety, sensory overload, and demand avoidance/burnout. Requires an adult who understands co-regulation, masking, and low-demand communication.
  
• Hearing Loss: Diagnosis of Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) with bilateral hearing loss. He relies on self-taught lip-reading and clear, face-to-face communication in quiet environments.
  
• Learning Style: A kinetic, practical learner who enjoys definitive subjects like Maths, as well as gaming, cooking, and creative tasks.
  

• Gender: Male (Essential for role modeling and targeted EHCP outcomes).
  
• Availability: Direct availability for sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (afternoons preferred).
  
• Interests: A genuine interest in gaming (e.g., Roblox) to help establish common ground.
  
• Experience:
  
  • Proven experience working with young people with ASD and ADHD.
    
  • Experience with Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), anxiety, or trauma-informed approaches.
    
  • Awareness of hearing loss or willingness to adopt Deaf-aware communication strategies (facing the student, clear spoken language, visual aids).
    
• Skills: Strong understanding of mentoring, life skills instruction, public transport training, and post-16/CV preparation.
  
• Requirements: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) and reliable transport.
