Maintenance Operative (ONGOING TEMP) - University Based

Overview

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Operative to join the estates team of our client - a reputable university in central London. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks to ensure buildings, facilities, and equipment are kept in safe and working order.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out basic general maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, painting and basic electrical work as and when required
• Conduct routine inspections of buildings and equipment, identifying and resolving issues where possible
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times
• Maintain accurate records of work carried out and materials used
• Liaise with external contractors where specialist work is required
• Assist with planned preventative maintenance programmes
• Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe

Requirements

• Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role
• Good practical skills across multiple trades
• Basic understanding of health and safety regulations
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Flexible and proactive approach to work

Desirable

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds or NVQ in a related discipline)
• Experience working in higher education environments
