Maintenance Officer

Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week

Responsibilities
- Deliver a satisfactory and cost-effective reactive, planned, and cyclical repairs maintenance service.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed to an acceptable industry standard in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Assist Building Maintenance Officers to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed within agreed timescales and meet customer satisfaction.
- Maximize and efficiently use department resources, materials, and plant.
- Control, manage, and efficiently operate an imprest stock system, stores, and local suppliers for building maintenance work.
- Execute instructions and requirements for delivering a building maintenance service through various work allocation methods.
- Pre-inspect and diagnose repair requirements, identifying necessary resources, materials, and plant.
- Accurately record work undertaken, including identifying relevant Schedule of Rates codes, actual working time, materials, and plant used.
- Ensure the safe use and storage of plant issued during duties.
- Provide a flexible, multi-skilled service, undertaking works outside the recognized trade background when required.
- Be flexible with working hours and prepared to work unsociable hours if necessary.
- Commit to the development and use of technology within the job function and maintain associated systems of work.
- Maintain required levels of job performance, ensuring value for money and quality of outputs to all service stakeholders.
- Participate in training initiatives specific to the role and service requirements.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and developing colleagues, apprentices, and trainees.
- Ensure all activities conform to relevant Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Systems of Work, and Health and Safety Legislation.
- Conduct daily safety checks of the vehicle and plant and record findings on a statutory document.
- Ensure compliance with the Council’s Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Policies, and Procedures.
- Implement the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy while performing duties.
- Adhere to Health and Safety legislation and relevant Council policies and procedures, taking reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others.
- Implement the Council's Environment Policy principles while carrying out duties.
- Report any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate safeguarding officer without delay.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Chief Officer, commensurate with the grade and general character of the job.
- Proven experience in maintenance work with a focus on delivering high-quality service.
- Strong understanding of industry standards and relevant legislation.
- Ability to efficiently use resources and manage stock systems.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills for pre-inspection and repair requirements.
- Capability to accurately document work and maintain records.
- Flexibility in approach and willingness to undertake additional training and duties as required.
- Commitment to personal development and technology use within the job function.
- Strong communication skills to assist in training and development of team members.
- Adherence to Health and Safety standards, with a proactive approach to safety checks and compliance.
