Location: Whitstable, Kent
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a busy maintenance team, supporting the smooth operation of manufacturing equipment and site facilities. This is a varied hands-on role involving planned preventative maintenance, reactive breakdown repairs, continuous improvement activities and project work.
You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime and supporting operational efficiency across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on machinery, plant and site facilities.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, repairing equipment and replacing components where required.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
- Use the CMMS system to manage maintenance tasks, prioritise workloads and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Support condition-based monitoring activities and identify improvement opportunities.
- Install, maintain and test electrical and mechanical equipment, including control panels and fixed installations.
- Work on hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and engineering drawings.
- Support ongoing continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Assist with new equipment installations, site improvement projects and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain engineering tools and equipment to a high standard.
- Coordinate with contractors where required, including reviewing RAMS and issuing permits to work.
- Assist with sourcing spare parts and processing purchase orders.
- Support facilities maintenance, including buildings, utilities and infrastructure.
- Carry out risk assessments and contribute to the development of safe systems of work.
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to ensure maintenance priorities are achieved.
- Provide overtime support when required to meet business needs.
What We''re Looking For
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent).
- GCSE Grade 5 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- A minimum of 5 years'' experience in a maintenance engineering role.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
- Good IT skills with experience using maintenance management systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
Desirable
- Completed an engineering apprenticeship.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- IOSH Working Safely or similar Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience with CNC machinery, automation, injection moulding or plating equipment.
- Knowledge of PLCs and industrial automation systems.
