Infeed Operative - Tray Wash Facility

Day Shifts 3 on 3 off 12 hours shifts

Location: Warrington, Cheshire

Department: Production / Operations

Job Type: Full-time

Reporting to: Shift Supervisor / Production Manager

Job Purpose

The Infeed Operative is responsible for ensuring that dirty trays, crates, and other reusable plastic packaging are safely and efficiently fed into the automated tray washing system. The role involves maintaining a consistent flow of materials, supporting production targets, and ensuring that all workplace health and safety, hygiene, and quality standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

Receive and sort dirty trays, crates, and reusable packaging from incoming deliveries or production areas.

Inspect items for foreign objects, excessive contamination, damage, or unsuitable materials before feeding them into the wash system.

Load trays and packaging onto the infeed conveyor in the correct orientation and at the required rate.

Maintain a steady flow of materials to ensure the tray wash line operates efficiently.

Remove damaged, unsuitable, or contaminated items and place them in the designated areas.

Monitor the infeed conveyor and report blockages, faults, or operational issues to the supervisor or maintenance team.

Follow all site health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the work area.

Assist with cleaning duties, including the removal of debris and general housekeeping around the infeed station.

Work closely with colleagues across the wash line to achieve daily production and quality targets.

Complete any required production, quality, or safety records accurately.

Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Shift Supervisor or Production Manager.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

Follow all company policies and procedures relating to health and safety, food hygiene, and manual handling.

Use machinery and equipment only as trained and authorised.

Report accidents, near misses, hazards, and equipment defects immediately.

Ensure work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from obstructions.

Wear the required PPE and comply with site hygiene requirements at all times.

Person Specification

Essential

Good understanding of workplace health and safety.

Ability to work in a fast-paced production or warehouse environment.

Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.

Ability to carry out repetitive tasks and handle trays or crates safely.

Good attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Willingness to follow instructions and learn new processes.

Desirable

Previous experience in a tray wash, food production, warehouse, or manufacturing environment.

Experience working with conveyors or automated machinery.

Knowledge of hygiene standards and manual handling procedures.

Working Conditions

The role is based in a busy tray wash facility in Warrington.

The position involves standing for prolonged periods and repetitive manual handling.

The environment may be wet, noisy, and fast-paced.

Shift work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or nights, may be required depending on operational needs.

Performance Measures

Consistent and efficient feeding of trays into the wash line.

Compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and quality standards.

Achievement of production targets.

Accurate reporting of faults and operational issues.

Good housekeeping and teamwork.
