We are recruiting for a Machine Assembly Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing business in the Colchester area.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience building machinery, automation or production equipment to join a small, friendly engineering team. The role will involve assembling and introducing internally designed machinery, ranging from mechanical jigs through to larger automated systems incorporating electrical and pneumatic components.

 

As a Machine Assembly Engineer, you will work from engineering drawings, schematics and 3D models to build machinery for use within production. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in testing, troubleshooting, continuous improvement and the development of new equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build machinery and equipment from engineering drawings, schematics and models
  • Assemble mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Test completed machinery to ensure it operates correctly and within specification
  • Identify and suggest improvements to machinery, tooling and production processes
  • Support the development of new jigs, fixtures and manufacturing processes
  • Work alongside mechanical, electrical and software engineers to integrate automated systems
  • Troubleshoot issues during machine build and testing
  • Assist with updating engineering documentation where changes have been made

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in machine building, machine assembly or a similar engineering environment
  • Experience assembling mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Good general knowledge of engineering practices, tooling and production methods
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • 3D CAD experience would be beneficial
  • Good problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  • A willingness to learn and get involved with new technologies
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a small team

 

This Machine Assembly Engineer role would suit someone who enjoys practical engineering, problem-solving and seeing machinery progress from a drawing through to a working system.
