Low Latency Linux Engineer | Global Asset Management Leader

Overview
Role Overview[Up to c. £250k Comp Package | Hybrid Working - 4 Days in Office (Long-Term)]We’re supporting a growing financial technology firm as it builds out its high-frequency trading infrastructure, with a focus on low-latency Linux engineering at the very core of its platform strategy. This is a greenfield opportunity, giving you the chance to design, optimise, and deliver next-generation trading systems from scratch - working closely with the business to translate requirements into engineering solutions. This is not a traditional sysadmin role; it’s suited to engineers with deep Linux expertise who thrive on pushing performance, optimising bare-metal systems, and writing efficient code. You’ll be the go-to person for low-latency infrastructure, making technical decisions that directly influence trading performance and execution quality.Key Responsibilities
Engineer and optimise Linux operating systems for ultra-low-latency workloads, including kernel tuning, IRQ management, CPU pinning, and NUMA optimisationDesign and implement high-performance networking approaches, minimising latency through user-space techniques and kernel bypass methodsOptimise hardware and firmware performance at the bare-metal level, including BIOS tuning, memory configuration, and CPU schedulingDevelop and maintain performance monitoring, observability, and diagnostic tooling for latency analysisWrite high-performance utilities and automation scripts in Java, Python, or Golang to support performance engineering and profilingDeploy and refine precision timing systems and ensure synchronisation across the trading estateCollaborate with quants, developers, and network engineers to align infrastructure enhancements with trading strategiesTake ownership of greenfield deployments, designing and delivering infrastructure solutions end-to-endWhat You’ll Bring
Strong track record in Linux performance engineering (8+ years), ideally within trading, HPC, or other latency-sensitive environmentsProficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred) with the ability to debug complex issues at the system levelDeep knowledge of modern CPU architectures, cache hierarchies, NUMA optimisation, and memory managementHands-on experience with kernel bypass and high-performance networking techniques (not tied to a specific vendor or product)Familiarity with multicast messaging, market data distribution, or other high-throughput communication patternsExperience with performance analysis and profiling tools, including hardware counters and latency diagnosticsBackground in building infrastructure from the ground up in greenfield environmentsStrong communication skills, comfortable sitting close to the business and translating requirements into technical deliverySeniority level
