We are looking for a skilled and compassionate individual to join our team in this exciting Locum role at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This position is part-time (5 PAs per week) within the NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (London).The service is delivered by Evelina London Children''s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The service aims to provide comprehensive assessment and a care plan for children and young people with gender-related distress, delivered by a wide multi-disciplinary team, with liaison to local health professionals as needed.Main duties
Successful candidates will have experience working with children or adolescents with complex presentations, including gender- questioning young people. Experience in assessment and management of neurodiversity, safeguarding and child protection, and service improvement is desirable. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, supervision to junior staff, and contribute to clinical governance, service development and research initiatives. The role includes opportunities to participate in the development and evolution of the service in line with the service specification.About us

A new clinical pathway has been developed, based on the Cass Review Interim Report, the NHS England interim service specification, and input from clinicians across regional hubs. The service will be delivered by a wide multi-disciplinary team including paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Who patients see will depend on the support and care they need.Children and young people will receive an in-depth assessment and a care plan developed with them and, if needed, their supporters. A range of care interventions may be offered, including therapy, family therapy, physical health support or mental health support. The team will liaise with local health professionals as appropriate. The NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service will continue to evolve with ongoing learning, research and audit, and there is a strong focus on service improvement.Person Specification
Essential qualifications
– MRCPCH by examination or equivalent; eligible for full UK GMC/GDC registration and a Licence to Practise; completion of at least 18 months higher specialist training in a relevant paediatric subspecialty; on GMC/GDC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT; competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training; demonstrable CPD.Desirable qualifications
– Higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD, PhD); experience of tertiary clinical assessment; training in ADI/3DI or similar tools.Experience/Knowledge
– knowledge/experience in children’s services with complex health care needs including neurodevelopmental issues and social vulnerability; partnership work with external networks; familiarity with assessment tools for autism and communication disorders; safeguarding and child protection experience; involvement in governance, audit, and education; service improvement experience. Desirable: experience with gender-questioning youth; research publications and knowledge of research ethics; broader knowledge of gender identity research landscape.Skills/Abilities
