Job Title: Legionella Risk Assessor

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Legionella Risk Assessor to join a growing water hygiene team, responsible for delivering high-quality risk assessments and ensuring compliance across a diverse portfolio of sites.

This role is key to identifying and managing Legionella risks in line with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019, supporting clients in maintaining safe and compliant water systems. You will be working across commercial, industrial, and residential environments, providing both technical expertise and practical recommendations.

The Role
As a Legionella Risk Assessor, you will be responsible for carrying out detailed site surveys, assessing water systems, and producing clear, compliant reports. You will operate both independently and as part of a wider compliance team, supporting the delivery of effective water hygiene programmes.

This is a technically focused role requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to confidently communicate findings to clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Legionella Risk Assessments & Compliance

• Conduct comprehensive Legionella risk assessments in line with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019
• Assess water systems including hot & cold systems, tanks, pipework, outlets, and cooling towers
• Identify risks relating to system design, temperature control, stagnation, and water treatment
• Carry out site surveys, inspections, and compliance audits
• Ensure all assessments are completed accurately and within agreed timeframes

Reporting & Recommendations

• Produce detailed, high-quality risk assessment reports with clear remedial actions
• Provide technical advice to clients on Legionella control and water hygiene best practice
• Develop Legionella control schemes and water management plans
• Ensure all documentation meets current regulatory and compliance standards

Water Monitoring & Support

• Undertake temperature monitoring, water sampling, and basic microbiological testing where required
• Support engineers and remedial teams with implementation of corrective actions
• Inspect TMVs, storage tanks, and outlets to ensure compliance
• Identify dead legs, stagnation risks, and system inefficiencies

Client Interaction & Development

• Act as a key point of contact for clients on Legionella-related matters
• Build strong working relationships and deliver a high level of service
• Provide guidance, training, and support to clients where required
• Stay up to date with industry standards, legislation, and best practices

Health & Safety

• Adhere to all health & safety procedures and HSE guidelines
• Carry out works in line with risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Ensure correct use of PPE and sampling equipment at all times

Requirements

Essential

Proven experience in Legionella risk assessment, water hygiene, or environmental compliance

Strong knowledge of ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong report writing and communication abilities

Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively

Full UK driving licence

Good understanding of health & safety within water hygiene environments

Desirable

City & Guilds Legionella Risk Assessment (or equivalent)

Background in water treatment, plumbing, or building services

Knowledge of fire safety-related water systems

Understanding of water treatment processes and microbiological testing
