The Lecturer in Land Based Engineering will play a key role in delivering practical instruction and technical support across agricultural mechanisation programmes, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for success within the land-based sector.
 
Working closely with teaching and curriculum teams, you will provide hands-on training, workshop supervision and technical guidance, ensuring learners gain valuable experience in farm machinery maintenance, servicing and engineering practices within a safe and engaging learning environment.
 
The Lecturer in Land Based Engineering will be responsible for:

  • Delivering practical instruction in agricultural mechanisation to industry standards.
  • Supporting the preparation, maintenance and operation of workshops, equipment and learning facilities.
  • Demonstrating, supervising and assessing students during practical activities.
  • Supporting the maintenance, servicing and overhaul of farm machinery and equipment.
  • Promoting safe working practices and ensuring students receive appropriate health and safety training.
  • Managing equipment, materials and stock to support the effective delivery of practical learning.
  • Assisting with curriculum development and continuous improvement activities.
  • Supporting open days, careers events and other departmental activities as required.
 
The Lecturer in Land Based Engineering will have:
  • A Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Forestry, Horticulture or a related field.
  • Practical experience working with farm machinery, agricultural equipment or land-based engineering systems.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, including IT proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with learners both individually and in groups.
  • A commitment to health and safety, equality, diversity and safeguarding.
  • A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
