Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor or Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs?

Tradewind Recruitment are working with a specialist school in Enfield supporting pupils aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They are looking for calm, resilient and passionate staff who can build strong relationships with pupils and help them re-engage with education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can provide the consistency, patience and boundaries that young people need to succeed.

The Role

You''ll work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to support pupils both in and outside of the classroom.

Your day-to-day role may include:

  • 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Supporting pupils who may have experienced trauma
  • Managing challenging behaviour using positive strategies
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions
  • Supporting pupils to access learning
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
  • Supporting social and emotional development
  • Helping pupils develop confidence and independence
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff

What We''re Looking For

We''re particularly interested in candidates with experience of:

  • SEMH / behavioural needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Trauma-informed approaches
  • Emotional regulation
  • De-escalation
  • 1:1 mentoring
  • Alternative Provision or specialist education
  • Youth work, residential care or similar environments

You don''t need to have worked in a school before if you have strong, relevant experience working with young people in another setting.

The most important thing is that you''re calm, consistent, patient and able to build genuine relationships with young people.

You''ll need to be confident maintaining boundaries while also understanding that every pupil has different needs and triggers.
