Are you a Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker or Care Worker with experience supporting young people with Autism / ASC and challenging behaviour?

This large, well-established specialist SEN secondary school in Rochdale support over 250 students aged 11-16 with a range of complex additional needs. They are looking for a patient, resilient and confident Learning Support Assistant to join a fantastic school community and cohesive support team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands that consistency, structure and positive relationships are key to helping young people regulate, engage and succeed.

The Role

Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist SEN staff, you will provide targeted support to students with ASC, complex learning needs and challenging behaviour.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support across the school.
• Supporting students with Autism / ASC and challenging behaviour.
• Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
• Helping students develop emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
• Supporting EHCP targets and individual learning plans.
• Building trusting, consistent relationships with students.
• Assisting with personal care where required.
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider SEN professionals.
• Maintaining a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience supporting young people with SEN, ASC / Autism or challenging behaviour.
• Calm, patient, resilient and emotionally consistent.
• Confident managing challenging situations and supporting de-escalation.
• Team Teach Level 2 or equivalent behaviour/positive handling training is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience within education, care, residential or alternative provision is welcomed.
• TA qualification, Psychology/Education degree or relevant experience desirable.
