Secondary School Learning Support Assistant – Students with ASC – Watford

Supply Desk are seeking a professional, compassionate, and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in the Watford area, starting this September.
This full-time role is ideal for an LSA who is passionate about supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and helping them achieve their academic, social and emotional potential. The successful candidate will be patient, empathetic, adaptable and committed to creating a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment where every student is supported to succeed.
You will provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with ASC, working closely with teachers and the wider school support team. You will help students access the curriculum, develop independence, manage transitions and routines, and build confidence in their communication and social interaction. The role may also involve supporting students with sensory needs, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

Responsibilities:
• Provide one-to-one and small-group learning support to secondary students with ASC
• Support students to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities
• Help students develop independence, confidence and social communication skills
• Support students with transitions, routines, emotional regulation and changes to their environment
• Use appropriate strategies to support individual communication and sensory needs
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to implement individual learning and support strategies
• Monitor and report on students'' progress, behaviour and wellbeing
• Encourage positive behaviour and maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
• Support students during break times, lunch periods and wider school activities where required
• Contribution to extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs
• Cooperation with colleagues in order to deliver the best possible outcomes
Requirements:
• Previous experience working with children or young people
• Experience supporting students with ASC, autism or additional learning needs is desirable
• Passion for supporting the learning, development and wellbeing of young people
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, calm, caring and empathetic approach
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students
• Understanding of individual needs, inclusive practice and neurodiversity
• Inclusive ethics
• Knowledge/Maintenance/Promotion of safeguarding
