Learning Support Assistant - Beacon 1

Location: Bradford - working across two College sites
Salary: £20,825.11 actual salary (£25,989 FTE), Band 5 OPT, Scale Point 6
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am-4.00pm
Contract: Permanent, term-time only plus two days
Start date: As soon as possible
Closing date: Friday 25 September 2026 at 12 noon

St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College is seeking a positive, resilient and committed Learning Support Assistant to join its SEND and Inclusion team.

The College is a highly aspirational learning community dedicated to providing an outstanding education for every student. Operating across two sites approximately one mile apart, it offers a vibrant, diverse and supportive environment in which students and staff are encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The Role

Working with the SEND team and wider Inclusion provision, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support to students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and English as an additional language (EAL).

You will help students engage positively with learning, develop their independence and make good progress throughout their college life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting identified students individually and in small groups
  • Delivering learning activities, mentoring sessions and targeted interventions
  • Monitoring students’ progress and providing constructive feedback
  • Supporting teachers with agreed learning, care and support programmes
  • Helping to create an orderly, purposeful and inclusive learning environment
  • Promoting positive behaviour, self-esteem and independent learning
  • Assisting with Individual Education Plans and Personal Care Programmes
  • Supporting students within classrooms and the College’s Inclusion and behaviour-support provisions
  • Supervising students outside lesson times and those completing internal exclusions
  • Administering routine tests and invigilating examinations when required
  • Liaising appropriately with teachers, other professionals and parents
  • Undertaking First Aid training and providing support when necessary

About You

The successful candidate will be a caring and confident team player with excellent communication, organisational and mentoring skills. You will be resilient, flexible and able to establish positive relationships with students who have a wide range of needs.

You will need:

  • An NQF Level 2 qualification in Health, Childcare, Youth Work, Community Language or a related subject, or equivalent experience
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above
  • Good IT skills
  • A strong commitment to inclusion and supporting young people
  • High expectations of student achievement and behaviour
  • A willingness to support the Catholic ethos and wider life of the College
  • The flexibility to work across either College site
