Commutable from: Islington, Haringey, Tower Hamlets, Stoke Newington, Dalston, Clapton, Homerton, Bethnal Green, Finsbury Park and surrounding East London areas.
Long Term Futures is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Hackney for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team this September.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a nurturing school that places a strong emphasis on inclusion, student wellbeing and personalised learning. You will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them access the curriculum, build confidence and achieve their full potential.
Working alongside experienced teachers, the SEND department and pastoral teams, you will provide one-to-one and small group support for students with a variety of additional needs, making a genuine difference to their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Support students with a range of SEND, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, learning difficulties and SEMH.
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions to support academic progress and personal development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and wider pastoral team to implement personalised support plans.
- Support students in developing independence, confidence and positive social skills.
- Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies.
- Record observations and communicate student progress with the wider school team.
- Promote positive behaviour through encouragement, consistency and clear expectations.
- Build strong, professional relationships that help students feel supported and valued.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Support Worker or in a similar role.
- Experience supporting secondary-aged students with SEND is desirable.
- Good understanding of inclusive learning practices and additional needs.
- A calm, patient and proactive approach to supporting young people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- A genuine commitment to helping every student reach their full potential.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
