GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Learning Support Assistant to work a Client Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2025.

  • Performing arts, music, dance, and drama, are an essential part of every student''s education at both Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • The school currently works with students who have a wide range of additional needs, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, issues with speech, language, and communication, conditions on the autism spectrum, more general learning difficulties, individuals with rare syndromes, impairments to hearing and vision, and attention deficit disorders.

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Work closely with teachers to support the learning and development of students with SEN.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on individual learning goals and progress.
  • Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence and resilience in a higher education setting. 
  • Assist in delivering tailored interventions and classroom activities.
  • Support students’ personal care needs when required, ensuring their comfort and dignity.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Teaching and Learning, Psychology, Social work, or a related field is essential.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
  • A solid understanding of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of strategies to support SEN learners
  • Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help overcome students’ barriers.
  • Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
