Closing date: Friday, 22nd May 2026

Who we are:
NMITE is a new kind of higher education provider, built around the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s workplaces.

Our approach is immersive and practical. Students learn full-time in studio environments, working collaboratively on real-world challenges while developing the confidence, communication and professional skills that set them apart.

Because our students learn differently, we support them differently. We take a flexible, student-centred approach, adapting support to individual needs and helping each student grow into an independent, capable and work-ready graduate.

We are looking for people who share this belief — who are passionate about student development and excited to help shape a genuinely different learning experience.

The Role:
NMITE is seeking a proactive, student-centred Learning Coach to support and enhance the student learning experience within our distinctive model.

Working within a block-based curriculum and 9–5 studio environment, you will support students in real time as they navigate intensive learning. You will help them develop effective learning habits, build confidence, and translate academic experience into real-world capability.

This is not a traditional academic support role. You will be embedded within the student journey, working closely with academic teams, the Academic Skills and Knowhow (ASK) Centre and Student Services to provide responsive, holistic support that enables students to succeed and progress.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and implementing a structured learning support framework aligned to NMITE’s block delivery model and studio-based approach.
  • Providing 1:1 and group-based learning coaching, supporting study skills, presentation skills, communication and professional behaviours.
  • Working alongside academic colleagues within the studio environment, offering in-the-moment support to enhance engagement and understanding.
  • Supporting students to become independent, self-directed learners, with a focus on learning how to learn.
  • Helping students develop real-world skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and professional communication.
  • Monitoring student engagement, attendance and performance, using data to identify early signs of disengagement and implement timely interventions.
  • Building positive, professional relationships that support student confidence, resilience and progression.
  • Providing pastoral support, using counselling-informed approaches (e.g. active listening, empathy and appropriate boundaries), and signposting as required.
  • Collaborating with academic teams to ensure learning is accessible and inclusive for all students.
  • Contributing to programme and module review processes to support continuous improvement in student outcomes and experience.
  • Supporting key stages of the student lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, transition and progression.
  • Lead the development of the Learning Coach function and framework, supporting its growth as NMITE expands.

Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:

  • Experience of supporting student learning within an educational setting (school, college, higher education) or equivalent transferable experience.
  • Experience of working with young people or young adults, particularly supporting learning, development or transition into higher education or employment.
  • Demonstrable interest in counselling-informed approaches, with the ability to apply active listening, empathy and appropriate boundaries to support student wellbeing.
  • Experience delivering academic or learning support to individuals and/or groups.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE) or equivalent.
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or similar.
  • Experience supporting students with additional learning needs, including neurodiversity.
  • Experience within further or higher education settings.
  • Experience contributing to curriculum delivery or structured academic support programmes.

Key Skills and Behaviours:

  • Student-centred approach – committed to improving outcomes, experience and progression.
  • Communication – able to communicate clearly and support students in developing their own communication and presentation skills.
  • Relationship building – able to build trust and rapport quickly.
  • Coaching mindset – supports students to develop independence, resilience and confidence.
  • Organisation – able to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment.

Our Values & Behaviours: NMITE aims to be a game changer. Our staff balance strong governance and quality with a willingness to test and push boundaries to create new approaches to engineering education. How we work together is central to this mission.
