Learning Care Support Assistant (LCSA)

As a Learning Care Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in providing support to children, particularly those with special educational needs. Reporting to the Lead Educator, your role will involve engaging with children, fostering their development, and implementing tailored learning strategies. With core experience in working with children and premium skills in teaching and supporting individuals with autism, you will create a nurturing environment. Your relevant skills in toddler care and effective communication will enhance the educational experience, ensuring every child receives the attention and support they deserve. This vacancy is to start ASAP until the end of the academic year- this position can also be renewed next September depending on performance!

Hours: Minimum of 4 days a week - exact hours TBC depending on student''s timetable but you''ll need flexibility between 8:45-17:00.

Contract: Temporary, long term, with the potential to go permanent depending on experience.

Requirements:

  • Epilepsy training (with buccal midazolam) course completed from with last 12 months
  • Manual handling/moving and handling training course completed from within the last 12 months
  • Experience with people with learning disabilities (such as ASD, Non-verbal ASD, ADHD, down''s syndrome, global delay etc)
  • Experience with physical disabilities (such as epilepsy, wheelchair users, cerebral palsy etc)
  • A background as an LSA, LCSA, support worker, carer etc is preferred
  • Experience and willing to do personal care
  • Experience with challenging behaviour
  • Experience with Makaton''s and/or PEC''s

This challenging new learning care support assistant position is based in Harrow, Northwest London, based in a further education setting. This role will be in the PMLD sector of the college, working with students with physical and/or learning disabilities, aged 16-25 years. You will be working with students on a 1:1 basis, assisting with their learning/activities during lessons, personal care, and at mealtimes. Some students will also be non-verbal or have limited communication, so experience with Makaton''s and/or PEC''s is preferred. Some students will also sometimes exhibit challenging behaviour, so experience/training in de-escalation techniques etc is preferred.
