Role: Learning & Development Officer
Contract: 3 months
Location: Southampton, UK (Hybrid)
Working Pattern: Full-time (9am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, 37.5hrs/week)
About the Role
We are seeking two experienced Learning & Development professionals to play a key role in delivering our highly regarded Leadership Essentials Programme. This programme is central to building strong, consistent management capability across the organisation.
You will be responsible for delivering engaging, high-quality leadership and management training to cohorts of managers across a variety of service areas. Working closely with colleagues across HR and Organisational Development (OD), you will support the planning and delivery of impactful learning interventions that extend beyond the classroom and enable managers to apply their learning in practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to join at a critical stage as we accelerate programme delivery and maintain momentum across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the Leadership Essentials Programme through engaging, primarily face-to-face training sessions.
- Facilitate high-quality leadership and management development to diverse groups of managers.
- Create inclusive and engaging learning environments that encourage participation, discussion, and practical application.
- Plan and coordinate training delivery in line with cohort demand and organisational priorities.
- Collaborate with HR and OD colleagues to ensure a consistent and high-quality learner experience.
- Gather, analyse, and respond to feedback to continuously improve programme delivery and contribute to wider HR initiatives.
- Act as a visible advocate for leadership development and management best practices across the Council.
About You
- Proven experience delivering leadership and/or management training in group settings.
- Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt delivery styles to different capability levels.
- Ability to create inclusive, open, and psychologically safe learning environments.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to learning delivery.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work at pace and respond flexibly to changing organisational priorities.
- Experience within the public sector is desirable but not essential.
- A recognised Learning & Development qualification (Level 4 or above), or equivalent experience (essential).
