Lead Product Manager

Overview
Lead Product Manager role at Department for Business and Trade (DBT). This technical and strategically critical role leads the transformation of the DBT Platform, ensuring it is robust, secure, scalable and efficient. You will own the roadmap to align with the department’s digital transformation goals and collaborate with technical architects, engineering leads, cyber security and platform users. As part of the Product and Delivery Leadership Team, you’ll shape how they work across DBT and help teams validate and deliver user and business needs.You will also communicate your team’s work to ministers and senior Civil Service leaders, providing clarity, insight and impact. This role requires experience with cloud-hosted platforms, DevOps, automated testing and deployment pipelines, and performance metrics (e.g., DORA). It also requires AI literacy and understanding of emerging technologies to guide innovation and resilience across the platform. A proven track record of leading large-scale platform operations and, ideally, infrastructure products, is essential.Responsibilities
Lead the transformation of the DBT platform to ensure long-term resilience and scalabilityDeliver a future-state platform while maintaining stability and continuity of existing servicesDevelop and own a compelling product vision and roadmap, balancing user needs, technical capabilities and business valueChampion agile delivery and DevOps culture across multiple teams, embedding modern engineering practicesRepresent the platform at senior boards, providing clear, strategic updates and influencing decision-makingLead, coach and develop a team of experienced product managers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvementEssential qualifications
Proven experience leading platform and/or infrastructure products at scaleStrong technical literacy, including cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, and large-scale web operations (SaaS and PaaS)Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including senior levels, and engaging with users to identify shared needs and prioritiesExperience with agile methodology and adaptable to fast-paced, evolving environments; ability to iterate rapidlyExperience developing and selling a product strategy, including drafting business cases, articulating costs/benefits, and translating technical concepts for non-technical audiencesCompensation and benefits
Salary range provided by DBT: £67,170 - £87,264 (including allowances). Salary dependent on location and technical skills as assessed at interview. Civil Service benefits include a 27% pension contribution.
