Lead Nurse for Neonatal Discharge, Outreach and SafeguardingWe are looking for an experienced Neonatal Discharge coordinator, outreach and safeguarding lead band 7 to join our team.

Our NICU is the Level 3 unit for the North Central London area providing specialist intensive care for critically ill babies. We also have close links with an on-site fetal medicine unit which is a regional, national and international referral centre for fetal medicine, caring for more than 7,000 patients each year. The MDT offers individualised care for pregnant women and their families when there is concern for the health of an unborn baby. This role provides varied and unique opportunities to develop expertise in neonatal nursing.

There are extensive opportunities to progress, including complex deliveries, exposure to babies requiring ITU care, involvement in governance, quality improvement projects and research. You will have opportunities to support students and nurses in specialty courses, engage with a wide MDT to support families, promote family integrated care, and provide high-quality care. You will also lead the development of the Outreach service in line with the latest BAPM framework.

Responsibilities

Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant guidelines as a Named Nurse (or Key Worker) for a defined group of patients.

Ensure provision of high-standard holistic, patient-centred care and assess nursing care and health education needs.

Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.

Organise and manage the department, including supervision of students.

Provide clinical leadership and ensure high-quality holistic patient-centred care.

Coordinate patient care, manage resources and oversee staff performance; responsible for Finance and Human Resources issues related to the department; implement Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.

Promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing and Midwifery strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust’s Top 10 Objectives.

Maintain high standards of care, communicate with the MDT, check and administer drugs according to guidelines, and support safe practice on the neonatal unit.

Qualifications and requirements

Ideally possess a recognised teaching qualification and demonstrate commitment to ongoing development.
