Position: Lead Consultant (Bristol/Reading)
Purpose:
Lead, develop, and manage strategy development and implementation in line with Client’s Consultancy Growth Plans. Take ownership of Consultancy growth campaigns, frameworks, tender opportunities, and operational excellence across the Consultancy stream.

The Business provides industry-leading support and solutions to a wide range of customers, serving as a platform for future strategic growth. In line with the overarching Cavendish Nuclear Strategic Plan and NDA, Clean Energy, and Defence Business Units, the Consultancy Business must develop an executable and measurable strategic business plan.
The Lead Consultant plays a crucial role in enabling the business’s growth aspirations through delivering technically excellent solutions. As such, the key responsibilities include:
General Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Identify core market areas, capability and technology requirements, and strategic partnerships/suppliers.
- Support the development of the Specialist Services 5-year business plan.
- Collaborate with business units to execute the strategy and ensure clear communication of Client’s Nuclear Strategy.
- Identify and communicate new business opportunities in current and future markets to support the Specialist Services Strategic Plan.
- Support strategic growth campaigns and bids, including developing value propositions and marketing materials aligned with Client’s Nuclear Strategy.
- Establish and maintain key customer relationships.
- Continuously improve service delivery through industry best practises.
- Ensure that deployed personnel are suitably qualified and experienced.
- Supervise technical specialists within the same discipline.
Project Delivery Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership and key input to design projects, ensuring the incorporation of nuclear safety requirements.
- Manage delivery of tasks within agreed Delegation of Authority (DOA), meeting cost and timeline targets to the satisfaction of key stakeholders.
- Oversee technical submissions through the review and approval process.
- Review and approve design changes, concessions, and technical queries.
- Manage project risks by closing out safety items on the Technical Issues and Risk Register Database.
- Create quality plans for work packages.
- Develop, verify, and approve technical Scopes of Work, assess tender returns, and verify/approve outputs to meet design sub-contract requirements.
- Provide feedback on lessons learned for future stages of the current and future projects.
Essential:
- Bachelor Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Science or Engineering related discipline.
- Chartered Status or working towards it.
- Trustworthy, mature, and discreet.
- Strong business and strategy development knowledge and experience.
- Experience in the civil nuclear industry.
- Market knowledge, including international and/or other energy sectors.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external leaders, partners, suppliers, and customers.
