About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Lead CNC Programmer to join our manufacturing team in Solihull on a Temp to Perm basis.
This hands-on role combines CNC milling programming, setting and operating with mentoring and supporting apprentices as they develop their engineering skills.
You will be responsible for producing high-quality precision components safely and efficiently, while providing technical support on the shop floor, troubleshooting manufacturing issues and contributing to a culture of quality, continuous improvement and skills development.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Work with a range of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure components meet required tolerances and timescales.
- Support and supervise trainee setups, encouraging practical problem-solving skills.
- Mentor apprentices and less experienced team members, sharing technical knowledge and best practice.
- Set and operate manual machinery and use a range of hand tools.
- Troubleshoot machining and manufacturing issues.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and maintain equipment appropriately.
- Work independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team.
- Communicate effectively with CNC setters, operators, supervisors and the Manufacturing Manager.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety.
- Contribute to improvements in productivity, safety and product quality.
- Maintain 6S standards and promote a right-first-time approach.
- Strong experience in CNC milling programming, setting and operating.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
- Good knowledge of machining processes, tooling and materials.
- Experience with manual machinery and hand tools.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work safely, independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and confidence sharing technical knowledge.
- Ability to mentor apprentices and developing engineers.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Strong commitment to quality, safety and right-first-time results.
You will use your machining expertise to solve technical challenges, improve manufacturing processes and support apprentices as they build their skills and confidence.
