Title: Laboratory Team Leader
Location: Telford, Shropshire
Salary: -33,000 - -35,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)

About the role:

The Cattle Information Service are seeking two experienced Laboratory Team Leaders to provide support to the Laboratory Manager in running their very high-throughput milk testing laboratory.
With purpose-built state of the art laboratory facilities, CIS are a well-established and leading provider of nutritional and health testing services for dairy and beef farmers in the UK. With a UKAS 17025 accredited laboratory in Telford, they are very well-known with a fantastic reputation in the market.

With a fantastic senior leadership team to support, they are looking for strong team leaders - people who can lead, prioritise and resource teams effectively in a fast-moving, high-throughput laboratory. The position would be well suited to a Senior Lab Analyst looking to take a step up, or an experienced Team Leader looking to develop their career further.

Important note: this role is a shift-based role so candidates need their own transport and be willing to work a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern including weekends.

About you:

You''ll bring:

• Recent, proven experience of managing a team of Analysts in an ISO accredited laboratory (ideally in a contract-testing laboratory but other sectors will be considered)
• Or recent, proven experience as a Senior Analyst in an ISO accredited lab looking to take a step up into team management
• Strong organisational capability in resource planning and workload prioritisation
• Excellent leadership, communication skills and high attention to detail
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
• A real passion for team development and management
• The willingness and ability to work on a shift pattern including weekend working
• A full UK driving licence and own transport to get to site.

What you''ll be responsible for:

• Managing a team of 5 Lab Assistants and Lab Analysts, supervising the compositional testing of a high throughput of samples
• Overseeing the daily running of the lab to ensure rapid turnaround of samples to meet deadlines
• Managing sample workflow throughout the lab, ensuring adequate resource allocation
• Identifying training needs and monitoring development of the team
• Training staff and regular performance reviews
• Maintaining laboratory compliance including ISO17025, H&S and COSHH
• Investigating and reporting any out-of-spec results
• Writing reports and maintaining documentation such as equipment calibration checks
• Reviewing current laboratory processes to understand improvement areas
