Laboratory Team Leader

Laboratory Team Leader - Renewables - Permanent - Ayrshire
Our client is a leading force in biofuels and renewable energy across the UK. At present, they are seeking a Laboratory Team Leader on a permanent basis at their site in Ayrshire, Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Team Leader or Manager to lead a small team of 3-4 chemists to support testing, development and delivery of major projects.
The Laboratory Team Leader is responsible for the overall management and operation of the laboratory, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant environment. This role involves overseeing laboratory staff, equipment, and resources to support research, development, and testing activities. The role will require knowledge and experience of compliance, safety, staff leadership, technical support and quality assurance.
The purpose of the laboratory is to provide data and support to the Business;
Key responsibilities:
- To deliver data to demonstrate compliance with environmental permits and accreditation schemes,
- To characterise and ensure quality control of feedstocks,
- To verify the quality of food grade CO2 and other products produced by the Site and ensure compliance with relevant accreditations,
- To support Operational teams to ensure ongoing performance of operations
- Ensure absolute adherence to relevant environmental performance standards for Long Sea Outfall discharges
- Laboratory Leadership:
Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and standards in compliance with Company requirements.
- Performance management of the laboratory teams, ensuring ongoing personal and professional development of team members to support growth of the business.
- Coordinate and schedule workstreams to ensure delivery of the business annual objectives and 5-year plan.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Oversee laboratory budgets and resources to maximise efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Oversee laboratory maintenance and repairs, including preventive maintenance schedules.
- Monitor laboratory performance and identify areas for improvement
- Use project management tools to maximise the productivity of the department and prepare reports on metrics for leadership review.
- Development of experimental plans and the management of the routine testing schedule.
- Produce, maintain and coordinate consumables in-line with requirements and budget.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry).
- Previous experience in a laboratory or industrial process setting, within a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Experience with regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO, GLP, GMP).
- Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
