Junior Commissioning Engineer

London & UK Travel
Ready to take the next step in your engineering career?
We're working with a leading technology-driven engineering business that specialises in smart building systems and advanced control solutions across some of the UK's most impressive commercial projects.
If you're an Electrician, Electrical Improver, Controls Technician, Maintenance Engineer or someone with experience in electrical systems and fault finding, this could be the perfect opportunity to move into a specialist Commissioning Engineer role.
This isn't your typical electrical installation position. You'll be involved in bringing complex systems to life, troubleshooting technical issues, working with the latest technology and becoming a key part of project delivery.
What you'll be doing

  • Testing and commissioning intelligent building control systems on customer sites
  • Bringing systems online and ensuring they operate in line with design specifications
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical faults during installation and handover phases
  • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation
  • Configuring, setting up and optimising system equipment and devices
  • Carrying out functional testing to ensure systems perform as intended
  • Identifying wiring, communication and configuration issues and helping to resolve them
  • Working closely with electricians, contractors and project teams to deliver successful installations
  • Supporting site surveys, inspections and commissioning activities on new and existing projects
  • Providing technical support during project handovers and client demonstrations
  • Producing commissioning reports, test records and project documentation
  • Travelling to customer sites across London and the UK
What we're looking for
We're open to a variety of backgrounds, including:
  • Electricians
  • Electrical Improvers
  • Electrical Test Engineers
  • Maintenance Engineers
  • Controls Technicians
  • Building Services Engineers
  • BMS Engineers
  • Junior Commissioning Engineers
You'll ideally have:
  • An electrical qualification (Level 3, NVQ, HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Experience reading electrical drawings and wiring diagrams
    17th or 18th Edition
  • Good fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • A willingness to learn and develop technically
  • ECS, JIB or CSCS card (desirable)
Why apply?
  • £40,000 basic salary
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Expenses covered
  • Full training and development
  • Clear progression into a specialist engineering career
  • Exposure to cutting-edge technology
  • Opportunity to work on prestigious projects across the UK
  • Long-term career development within a growing and highly technical sector
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an electrical background who enjoys problem solving and wants to move away from purely installation-based work.
Rather than spending your days running cables and fitting accessories, you'll be responsible for making sure systems operate correctly. You'll use a combination of electrical knowledge, technical troubleshooting and commissioning skills to test, configure and optimise systems before they're handed over to the customer.
The role offers a clear pathway into specialist engineering, providing exposure to advanced technologies, major commercial projects and long-term career development opportunities.
If you're currently working in electrical installation, testing, controls or maintenance and want to move into a role that combines engineering, technology and problem solving, we'd love to hear from you.
