Salary: £140 - £160 per day (depending on experience)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient English & Maths Intervention Teacher to join a successful secondary school in Portsmouth from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting students who require additional academic and pastoral support. The role will involve teaching English and Maths to small groups of students who have been removed from mainstream lessons, helping them re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.

You will work within a specialist provision designed to provide targeted support for students who require a more structured and personalised learning environment. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons that help students build confidence, improve core literacy and numeracy skills, and develop the behaviours needed for successful reintegration into mainstream education where appropriate.

Working alongside pastoral, SEND and safeguarding teams, you will play a vital role in supporting both the academic progress and personal development of young people.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging English and Maths lessons to small groups of secondary-aged students.
• Differentiate learning to meet a range of academic, behavioural and emotional needs.
• Support students who may have experienced barriers to learning, disengagement from education or difficulties accessing mainstream classrooms.
• Create a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
• Build strong relationships that promote student confidence, engagement and success.
• Implement strategies to support behaviour regulation and positive learning habits.
• Monitor and track student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for development.
• Work collaboratively with pastoral leaders, SEND staff, parents and external agencies where required.
• Support students in developing resilience, self-confidence and independence.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant secondary teaching experience.
• Ability to teach English and Maths confidently at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 level.
• Experience working with students who require additional support, intervention or alternative provision.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• A patient, adaptable and resilient approach.
• Understanding of SEND, SEMH and barriers to learning.
