Intermediate Quantity Surveyor
Our client is seeking a motivated and commercially aware Intermediate Quantity Surveyor with experience in overhead cabling and substation projects to support the delivery of major power and utilities infrastructure programmes across the UK. The Role
As an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in supporting the commercial and contractual management of projects from early-stage development through to final account. Working across overhead line and substation schemes, you will contribute to cost control, procurement, and contract administration while continuing to develop your technical expertise.
You will work alongside Senior Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, taking ownership of defined work packages while being supported in your ongoing professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and management of cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
- Monitor project costs, assisting in reporting and identifying variances
- Assist in the administration of contracts (NEC, JCT, or similar), including change control processes
- Support procurement activities, including tender preparation, evaluation, and subcontractor engagement
- Assist in managing subcontractor accounts, including payments, variations, and final accounts
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities, supporting mitigation strategies
- Contribute to the preparation of commercial reports and client updates
- Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure efficient project delivery
- Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation
About You
- Experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the power, utilities, or energy sector
- Exposure to overhead lines (OHL) and substations is highly desirable
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts (preferred) or similar
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Ability to manage workload effectively and take ownership of tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with commercial/project tools
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Working towards professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS) is advantageous
