Interim Financial Controller (3-months)

About the Role
Hays are recruiting an Interim Financial Controller (initial 3-month contract) for a manufacturing SME based just outside Chelmsford. This is a hands-on role requiring strong cost accounting expertise and the ability to interpret and explain financial variances. You''ll support the business through a period of transition and will be required to be on-site 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead cost accounting, variance analysis, and stock/WIP reporting
• Deliver insightful financial commentary and analysis using Excel (advanced formulas, no VBA)
• Use Power BI to enhance reporting and analysis (highly desirable but not required)
• Manage a small finance team of 3-4
• Oversee audit preparation and liaise with external auditors
• Understand invoice financing and insured debt processes
• Review payroll and ensure correct journal postings in collaboration with team

About You:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in manufacturing finance roles
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills
• Ability to "tell the story" behind the numbers
• Comfortable managing a small team and working independently
• Power BI experience is a significant advantage
