About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Interface Engineer to join our rail infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all technical interfaces across complex, multidisciplinary projects, ensuring seamless integration between systems, stakeholders, and external partners.
You will play a key role in mitigating interface risks, driving coordination, and ensuring that all system boundaries are clearly defined, documented, and delivered.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the identification, documentation, and resolution of all project interfaces
- Establish and maintain the Interface Register, ensuring it is accurate and up to date
- Develop and manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Requirement Specifications (IRS)
- Coordinate interface activities across multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., communications, control systems, passenger information systems)
- Manage external interfaces, including client systems, third-party suppliers, and integration with existing (brownfield) infrastructure
- Chair interface coordination meetings, ensuring actions are clearly defined and driven to closure
- Escalate complex or unresolved interface issues to the Lead Project Engineer where necessary
- Work closely with Change & Configuration Management to manage interface changes and their impact on scope
About You
- Proven experience in an interface engineering or systems integration role, ideally within rail or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and interface management processes
- Experience producing and managing technical interface documentation (ICDs, IRS, etc.)
- Excellent stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to manage both internal and external interfaces
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a proactive and structured approach
Desirable
- Experience within rail systems (e.g., communications, SCADA, passenger information systems, or control systems)
- Knowledge of brownfield integration challenges and working in operational environments
- Familiarity with engineering lifecycle, assurance processes, and industry standards
