Location: Chelmsford
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 + Excellent Benefits
We are working on behalf of a well-established, multi-disciplinary consultancy to find a Infrastructure Civil Engineer to join their expanding team in Chelmsford. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a leading role in the design and delivery of development-led infrastructure projects across the UK.

The Role
You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of civil infrastructure projects, including:
- Highways design and improvements
- Drainage strategy and detailed design (SuDS, foul and surface water)
- Utility coordination and diversion planning
- Earthworks, levels, and pavement design
Working closely with clients, architects, and other disciplines, you’ll ensure technically robust solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support the civil engineering design of infrastructure for development schemes
- Prepare and review drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations)
- Manage and mentor junior engineers and technicians
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and attend client/design meetings
- Assist in the preparation of fee proposals, budgets, and project programmes
- Oversee quality, safety, and technical delivery across your projects
About You
We're looking for a technically strong and motivated engineer with a passion for infrastructure.
You’ll need:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 5–8 years of experience in UK-based infrastructure design (ideally within consultancy)
- Solid working knowledge of highway and drainage design (Section 38, 104, 106, 278)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PDS, Flow/MicroDrainage, and related tools
- Good communication skills and experience liaising with clients and local authorities
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable:
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status (CEng MICE or similar)
- Understanding of BIM workflows and collaborative digital tools
- Experience supporting planning applications and public consultations
