The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance across the site. The role will ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations, minimises risk, protects employees, contractors and visitors, and promotes a proactive health and safety culture that supports operational excellence.

Working closely with the Site Leadership Team, Engineering, Technical, HR and Operations, the post holder will provide practical advice, monitor compliance, investigate incidents and drive continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.

Role & Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Act as the site lead for all health, safety and environmental matters.
  • Provide competent professional advice to managers and employees on health and safety legislation, Company policies and industry best practice.
  • Promote a positive behavioural safety culture by coaching, influencing and engaging employees and managers to take ownership of health and safety.
  • Support managers in meeting their health and safety responsibilities and embedding safe working practices within their departments.
  • Develop, review and maintain site health and safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Technical, HR and Operations to ensure health and safety considerations are integrated into operational decision-making and continuous improvement activities.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Lead the identification, assessment and control of workplace risks across all departments.
  • Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments are completed, reviewed and implemented, including COSHH, manual handling, workplace transport, machinery, PUWER and DSE assessments where applicable.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, Company procedures and industry best practice.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes and ensure they are communicated and implemented effectively.

Experience

• Demonstrable Health and Safety management experience within manufacturing.

• Experience of audits, risk assessments, incident investigation and compliance management.

• Experience delivering training and working with regulatory bodies.

• Food manufacturing or FMCG experience would be preferred but not essential

• Contractor management and occupational health experience.

Essential

• NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent)

• CMIOSH or CertIOSH working towards Chartered status

• Full UK Driving Licence

• IEMA qualification

• Train the Trainer qualification

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.

• Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills.

• Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Competent in Microsoft Office and health and safety management systems
