Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional, looking for your next position? Do you want to work for a market leading company on an interesting project? Read on as this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

The best Health & Safety professionals do more than spot risks and ensure compliance. They influence decisions, challenge established ways of working and help create environments where everyone can do their job safely and go home at the end of the day.

Great safety leadership isn''t just about policies, audits and procedures. It''s about influencing decisions, building trust with the people delivering the work and making sure everyone understands the part they play in creating a safer working environment.

We''re looking for an ambitious, proactive SHE Manager to join a major infrastructure programme, supporting the delivery of complex projects where health, safety and wellbeing are central to success.

This is an opportunity for an experienced SHE professional who enjoys being close to project delivery, working with a wide range of stakeholders and turning safety standards into practical improvements on the ground.

If you''re someone who can challenge when necessary, build strong relationships and bring people with you, we''d like to hear from you.

The opportunity

Working closely with senior project leadership, operational teams and supply chain partners, you''ll play a key role in shaping and maintaining high standards of safety throughout the project lifecycle.

You''ll provide professional guidance, oversee compliance and assurance activities, and help project teams identify and manage risks before they become incidents. Just as importantly, you''ll encourage open conversations about safety, support workforce engagement and help create a culture where doing the right thing becomes second nature.

You''ll be joining a complex delivery environment where collaboration, sound judgement and continuous improvement really matter - and where your input can make a tangible difference.

What you''ll be responsible for

This is a varied role that combines technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and hands-on involvement in project delivery.

  • Lead the safety agenda: Drive health, safety and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring they are embedded into day-to-day project activities rather than treated as a tick-box exercise.

  • Be a trusted adviser: Provide clear, practical guidance to project teams, operational managers and contractors on legislation, compliance and safe working practices.

  • Keep standards high: Lead audits, inspections and assurance activities, identifying potential issues and working with teams to put effective improvements in place.

  • Manage risk proactively: Support the development and review of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work across all stages of delivery.

  • Influence behaviours: Engage with the workforce, coach colleagues and promote positive safety behaviours that help prevent incidents and protect people''s wellbeing.

  • Investigate and learn: Lead or support investigations into incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, ensuring lessons learned lead to meaningful action.

  • Use data to drive improvement: Monitor performance, identify trends and recommend practical steps to strengthen safety outcomes.

  • Build strong partnerships: Work collaboratively with clients, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders to maintain consistent standards and resolve challenges.

  • Put safety at the heart of delivery: Work with project teams to ensure health and safety considerations inform planning, decision-making and operational activities.

  • Share what works: Champion continuous improvement, communicate best practice and help raise standards across the wider organisation.

What we''re looking for

We''re looking for someone who combines sound technical knowledge with the confidence to influence people, challenge constructively and build lasting working relationships.

You''ll ideally have:

  • Proven experience in a SHE or Health & Safety role within construction, rail or major civil infrastructure.

  • A strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and how to apply it in a practical project environment.

  • Experience in auditing, compliance management, risk assessment and incident investigation.

  • A recognised occupational health and safety qualification or equivalent professional accreditation.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.

  • Experience working on complex projects involving multiple contractors, teams and competing priorities.

  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

  • The confidence to influence safety culture and encourage accountability without losing sight of the practical realities of project delivery.

You''ll stand out if you have experience working on major infrastructure programmes, hold a NEBOSH qualification, are a member of IOSH or another relevant professional body.

We''re particularly interested in professionals who want to go beyond maintaining compliance and actively contribute to improving how projects are delivered.

What''s in it for you?

Alongside the role itself, you''ll benefit from a package designed to support your career, wellbeing and life outside work, including:

  • Generous annual leave, with the option to purchase additional holiday.

  • Flexible and adaptable working arrangements.

  • Contributory pension scheme.

  • Annual bonus scheme.

  • Professional development, including mentoring and ongoing learning opportunities.

  • Recognition schemes and long-service awards.

  • Car scheme and private medical insurance, (where applicable to the role).

  • Share-save opportunities to participate in the wider business.

  • Everyday savings, including cycle-to-work and gym membership discounts.

  • Confidential support services for you and your family.

  • Family-friendly policies and a positive approach to work-life balance.
