Role:                           Hospital Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advisor (IDSVA)

Location:                    Bristol

Salary:                        £27,700 – £29,000 (depending on experience)

Contract:                    Full-time – Fixed Term Contract until the end of March 2026 with a strong chance of the role becoming a permanent opportunity (subject to funding)

Our client, a highly specialist charity in the Southwest, is currently recruiting for several Hospital based Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocates to work across A&E and Maternity Departments in Bristol.

As a Hospital IDSVA, you’ll work directly within a busy hospital environment, providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and ongoing practical support to patients experiencing domestic and/ or sexual abuse. You’ll liaise closely with hospital staff, safeguarding teams, and external agencies to ensure survivors receive the protection, care, and respect they deserve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing immediate advice and support at the point of crisis, making A&E a safe space where support is provided and choices are offered
  • Providing support to enable survivors to safely maintain their current accommodation, access welfare benefits, legal advice alternative housing, and support services
  • Making appropriate safeguarding and MARAC referrals; provide support for up to 4 weeks and make referrals for ongoing support
  • Working closely alongside hospital staff, providing training, expert advice and raising awareness to support the disclosure of domestic violence and abuse

  • Proven experience working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse within the VAWG sector and/ or a related sector (including Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Supported Housing and Social Services)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and multi-agency working
  • Strong communication, empathy, and crisis management skills
