The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated HLTA to join the team. Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals, you will support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or severe learning difficulties, helping them achieve their individual learning and development goals.
You will confidently deliver planned learning activities and lessons, promote positive engagement and independence, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lessons and learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Support pupils with ASC and severe learning difficulties to achieve their individual learning and personal development targets.
- Adapt learning to meet a range of communication, sensory and learning needs.
- Use a variety of SEN strategies, including visual timetables, sensory approaches and AAC methods.
- Promote positive behaviour using a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to support pupil progress.
- Help maintain a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Essential Requirements
- HLTA status or a relevant Level 4 qualification.
- Significant experience supporting children or young people with ASC and/or severe learning difficulties.
- Experience delivering lessons and leading learning activities under the direction of a teacher.
- Good understanding of effective SEN strategies, including visual timetables, sensory integration and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Team Teach training or experience using positive behaviour support strategies.
- Experience using PECS, Makaton or other AAC systems.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures within specialist education settings.
