We are working with a growing, independent civil engineering consultancy delivering practical and innovative infrastructure solutions across mainly residential, but also  commercial, and mixed-use developments.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Technician / Engineer to join our team and take a leading role in the delivery of highway and transportation infrastructure projects.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated highway professional who enjoys technical leadership, project delivery, and client engagement. You will lead the design and coordination of highway infrastructure schemes, undertake technical reviews, and provide guidance to colleagues across a diverse portfolio of development projects.
Working closely with developers, local authorities, architects, planners, and multidisciplinary design teams, you will help deliver highway solutions from concept and planning stages through to detailed design and construction.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of highway infrastructure projects associated with residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Prepare and oversee Section 278 (S278) Highway Design packages in accordance with local authority and national standards.
  • Undertake and coordinate highway access design to support planning applications and development proposals.
  • Carry out highway alignment design using Causeway PDS, ensuring compliance with relevant design standards and best practice.
  • Produce detailed designs for carriageways, footways, and associated highway infrastructure.
  • Undertake pavement design for adoptable and private road schemes.
  • Design and review priority junctions, signalised junctions, roundabouts, and highway improvement schemes.
  • Coordinate drainage, utilities, street lighting, and other associated infrastructure within highway design projects.
  • Manage technical project delivery, ensuring quality, programme, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Liaise with local highway authorities, clients, and stakeholders throughout the design and approval process.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Essential Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience in highway design within a consultancy or local authority environment.
  • Strong knowledge of highway design standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, and local authority design guidance.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering S278 highway schemes and development-related infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Causeway PDS for highway alignment and geometric design.
  • Experience in access design, pavement design, junction design, and roundabout design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and associated civil engineering design software.
  • Strong understanding of the planning and technical approval process for highway infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.
